A wiki is one way to create a web presence for any class you might be teaching. PBWiki, specifically, is easy to use and allows the user to set permissions so that the wiki can behave like a web page, with only the instructor as a creator, or like a collaborative project with several instructors or the instructor and the students working together to create content. This web site (http://baerusers.pbwiki.com) is an example of using a wiki like a solid-state web page.
This guide will walk you through creating a solid state web page using PBWiki. The goal is to provide a framework for sharing class materials. The final tutorial will illustrate how to set permissions if you are interested in opening up a page -- or the whole wiki -- to collaboration.
You will need to decide on the goal/topic of your wiki and a wiki name. It is also a good idea to think of and somehow document a username and password for your PBWiki account. Having all of this decided before you sit down to the computer will make the process speedier.
Also, be sure to create a wiki for education, when given the option. Educational wikis have more free features than personal wikis.
This video cuts-off a bit at the beginning. All I say is that it's important to have some idea of a wiki name and a solid idea of what you want the wiki to be useful for. I would have re-done the video, but that would have meant creating another wiki. Since the name of the wiki is dead once you delete it, I didn't want to have a bunch of wikis just laying around. Trust me, not much is missing.
